How to Customize Your School Labels
Custom label printing is easy when you order from the PrintRunner website. With our intuitive order calculator, you can select the label type, shape, size, and material before uploading your artwork file. Step 1. Choose your label format. The formats vary in terms of the printing process, application benefits, and material. We offer four (4) label types: cut-to-size, roll, sheet, and kiss-cut.
- Cut-to-size labels are individually cut according to their specific shape and size. We cut through the backing and deliver them in stacks. These labels make for great handouts and student name tags since they're already separated into pieces. Cut-to-size labels are suitable for low quantity orders.
- Roll labels are printed and spun around a spool that fits most label dispensers. You can apply roll labels by hand or with a machine for faster application. Roll labels are suitable for large orders, assembly lines, and labeling school equipment.
- Sheet labels are printed on white sticker paper and are available in several size options. One thing that makes sheet labels different from cut-to-size and roll labels is that you can print multiple designs per sheet. Sheet labels are stackable, which means they are easy to store. Sheet labels are best used for address labels, administrative documents, and asset tagging.
- Kiss-cuts are printed individually like cut-to-size labels, except they come with a border and backing sheet surrounding your design. When printed, these labels initially come in a square shape. But unlike cut-to-size labels, your label design will only be cut through the vinyl, not the backing.
Step 2. Choose your label size and shape. Custom labels come in a variety of custom shapes and sizes. Our standard shapes include rectangle, square, circle, and oval. If you want something that stands out, we can also print arch, hexagon, heart, starburst, and even custom shapes. When you choose custom shapes, we will trim the label according to your design's exact size and shape, whatever it may be.
Step 3. Pick the suitable label material. We offer indoor and outdoor label stocks that are suitable for almost all kinds of surfaces. For indoor applications, choose from white sticker paper, white premium sticker paper, and textured Estate adhesive paper. They're uncoated, writable, and you can add protective gloss and matte coating to enhance your designs.
If you need something more durable and waterproof, white vinyl and BOPP (biaxially-oriented polypropylene) materials will last long. They're tearproof, refrigerator-safe, and ideal for outdoor applications.
Step 4. Upload your artwork and get it checked for free. You can use your own design file and select your preferred proofing option.

The quantity of labels per sheet depends on the size of your labels. Our smallest size (2.685" x 1") fits thirty (30) labels per 8.5" x 11" sheet. If you choose the largest size, 5" x 4", you can fit four (4) labels per sheet.
If you need something suitable for indoor use, we recommend white sticker paper. These are not waterproof, but you can add protective gloss or matte laminate for extra protection.
For outdoor use, white vinyl is the best option. It comes with a high-gloss, UV-resistant coating that protects your stickers and labels from external elements.
If you need something oil- and water-resistant, BOPP is similar to plastic film and safe to use for products that need to be stored in refrigeration.
